re: blue.

hello friends, fans, foe and lovers,

i'm feeling a bit blue, which is the reason why i re-posted that song and video......the short winter song from  2 years ago on this very blog.

haven't slept much tonight, a few hours maybe, and i've decided to sit up and drink tea and look through old photos, and feel, i dunno, a mixture of haunted, sadness and torn up bits of confusion. i miss my kids something fierce, and can't help but wonder if i'm making the right decisions in life. i keep being all mumbly joe about the past and what haunts us, because i can't seem to shake this feeling that i've left them for an education in the world. their mum and i are probably beyond redemption, and resolution, and it's quite sad. so, i keep pushing on in life, and hoping for the best, and that in some way i'm kicking open doors for my kids to follow, but there's no guarantee right? sigh, it all feels a bit mis-directed at four in the morning and you're feeling low. sigh, i guess for the moment, i'll have to soldier on and keep moving.

i reckon i'll figure it out.

in the meantime, looking at all the photos, especially the past two years, my god, all the places and faces, the highs and the lows.......maybe i'm supposed to keep moving, and that's just the reality of it?

in the meantime, have a look at some photos and i'll see you down the road i'm sure......

cheers,

cb
ps: and please don't misinterpret anything i've said, i've had a quite enough of that the last couple days, it never ceases to amaze me how one thing said typed out can be reinterpreted as totally something else. i'm about ready to quit things and move on, i've already had enough of the drama i'm currently being submitted to..........

re: cannibalizing my art......

http://findingshelter.blogspot.com/2009/01/holiday-song.html

i don't mean to cannibalize my own art, but I've been thinking about this particular film i made over two years ago.

there are many, many moments over the past several years i can't recall, jam sessions, creating a piece of art, writing a poem, or whatever, simply because i've been on the road so long. think of it like living in dog years. but this one evening walk i took and the photos from that night have been haunting me for some time. perhaps it's the music, perhaps it's the lonely streets from that night. i don't quite know, but it's been bugging me a lot lately, so i thought i'd find it and repost a link to it so you too can experience it.

it was a transitional time in my life, i was going through a lot of relationship and emotional stuff, spending a lot of time on the road, but on design, not driven by anything else. there is a heavy price to pay for really going after what you want in life, and that price is usually paid by the ones around you first, and then finally, yourself.

travel well and guarded my friends, fans, foe and lovers,

all the bets,

cb
ps: yes, i meant "bets"

Greetings friends, foe, lovers and the like,

here's a little riff i recorded the other night on video, while watching teevee.......i think the timing is off slightly for the lead guitar, but whatever, i like the weird "ghost" effect i had going on by layering these clips.....

re: art book publishers?

hello friends, fans, lovers, and foe,

so, i'm trying to get off the road, but traveling back and forth between Kamloops and Kelowna is getting exhausting.......ugh.

it won't be happening forever, that's what i keep telling myself.

i've been enjoying listening to the latest albums from Gomez and Phil Selway, better known as the drummer from Radiohead......cool stuff......

BUT, in the meantime, i'm looking to find a publisher who can do art books, and maybe make a book based on the blog and put it up for $ale?

what do you think? do contact me or post something if you have ideas or suggestions?!

cheers,

cb
ps: dig the evil portrait of ousted dick-tater what'shisface from Egypt.....

pss: actually, it's a portrait of me.

i think this is the simplest piece i've done in some time........i don't know why.

anyway, i think i'll rework this one for the five day project and see what happens......it's an opportunity to work in new styles.......

well, gotta go, later skaters.......

cb

this particular track was recorded with Rick Crowe on shakers and Sean Luciw on lead guitar, we did it in one take, in the kitchen of Rick's place, and I think we cut a few tracks that day, but I remember that one for sure.........

here's a photo taken by my ex, but is my favourite one i use for promo.......

i hope you dig the track......

re: the road and windows.......

The road:

As I type this on a bus, somewhere between kamloops and vernon, I realize a few things……that I travel a hell of a lot, I’m guessing between 40 and 50 thousand kilometers in the past year, which is mostly on other people’s dime. Meaning, I do a lot of work related traveling, and my business is ART! But I also do a lot of personal traveling, and the more I do, the more I realize that I love the road, and that I finally feel like I’m doing what I want with my life. Being on the road endlessly, for a restless spirit like me, is good for my soul. You see a lot different places, faces, stages, galleries, cities and personalities. You also realize people live in the weirdest places, that make you wonder why the hell they are there in the first place.

I love watching people, the struggle, the joy, the challenges, the tragedy, the triumphs, the heartache, the love, the longing, the steadfast determination and everything in between. I also realize I have been slowing down a lot, in many ways, which is a good thing, because I was living and traveling really hard, and could feel myself doing two things: slipping away and burning out. On the road, people sometimes take more than they can give back to you, it’s not their fault, it’s just the nature of people. I don’t think we have a lot of healthy role models in our lives, and too often we turn to the idiot box for answers.

The rejuvenating part for me, was being onstage, in front of an audicnce, because that almost always fed my soul. Once you become a performing musician, or actively touring author, you can probably never get it out of your soul. That interaction is hard to describe and impossible to emulate, you just have to get up there and experience it for yourself. I’ve been performing on stages for nearly twenty years, and can still remember my first gig! Everything else is a blur, but there are stand-out moments definitely that I’ll try to remember until I leave.

I haven’t been doing as much art for the past month, because I needed to explore new styles, do research, and adjust to moving to Kelowna for my gig at the Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art. I’ve also been completing my own first personal film project in quite sometime, one that I’m reasonably happy with at last. There’s always more to learn, see and do, so I’ll keep following that progression, it works for me. I’ve got some cool ideas for shows at the Alternator, and will keep you posted on that, as well, I might post my new film “Jesus Coyote TeeVee” online somewhere, but this is an immersive film project, and it works much, much better when projected on a large screen with a decent, loud sound system.

I’m going to do some more work on it this week, but for the most part, it’s done, and will screen this Friday in Kelowna, BC at the Kelowna Art Gallery during the Reel Roots Festival. I’m also trying to find more musicians to jam with, as there’s some songs to be written and stages to rock on. As well, I’ve got my latest manuscript ready, and need to get that off to my publisher to see if they’re interested in doing anything with it. Life is busy, hell, it’s even hectic, but I love it this way, I spent a long time trying to get here, so I might as well enjoy it while it lasts, coz god knows how long it will right? Well, I gotta go, the bus is getting bumpy, and I think I’m feeling car sick from typing this! Ha ha!

Until next time lovers,

cb

re: a hole lotta stuff.....

hello friends, fans, foe, lovers and the like,

i miss you, yessssss i sin-cerely do........i miss meeting you on the road when you ask why i haven't posted anything for awhile, (which always kind of weirds me out, but strangely, encourages me to get off my ass....) and i miss you at gigs, readings, exhibitions, screenings and the like......and just miss meeting you randomly on the street........i sometimes love it when you rant at me about the downfall of this, or the rise of that......it's always great to hear someone with an opinion.....

anyway, in the meantime, i FINALLY have completed the "JESUS COYOTE TeeVee" new short, experimental film.......and it will have it's premiere screening at the REEL ROOTS FESTIVAL in Kelowna, BC, at the Fabulous Kelowna Art Gallery on Friday, Feb 11, around 7 pm-ish.......

do come check it out, and prepare for an auditory, visual orgy.........

it will then hit a variety of cities across canada, and will keep you up to date on the staggering meanderings of Jesus Coyote and his perilous misadventures across the red/black roads of canada..........

so, this is a key for you to unlock the mysteries of Jesus Coyote, decode and you will perhaps understand a persnickety bit more about the film release........

"The sky was getting brighter as a veil of light was being spread across the city, slowly washing away the night and all the dreams that came with it. What was there to prove, what was there to lose? In a small town people were scared of the truth, of the beauty and of the ugly sides of life. Most days I can take it, then there are other days when I’m exhausted because I know this is not where I want to be and it seems like torture. To watch people kiss each other’s asses and struggle to maintain the lies, the exorbitant amount of energy, time and money it was to accomplish it. I had no patience for the boomer assholes who drove around oblivious to the truth in their monstrous sport utility vehicles, ignorant of the fact that the poor see this wealth, this obvious show of status and we loathe them for crawling in it."

There's also an interesting art show going on at the Kelowna Art Gallery, not to Mention we have the opening for the Fabulous SUE BIZECKI show called "WINDOWS" at the ALTERNATOR CENTRE FOR CONTEMPORARY ART, opening  tomorrow night, at 7 pm.......

here's a link to check out the details .....

until next time lovers,
