re: desert city queen.....

hello friends, fans, foe, lovers and leavers,

i bring you the desert city queen.

the other night some friends passed through town and some hijinks ensued. it was great fun.
but what it really did was remind me i'm somewhat isolated up here in the interior of b.c.

the night life consisted of running a gamut of crackheads and meth junkies between the three or four pubs that were open. 2 of which were total dives. haha.

and still, everything closed at 1 a.m.

i'm not part of the young, hipster art crowd, most of which is university driven of course, in fact i'm quite sure if i showed up at some hipster art gathering, arguably, they'd wonder whose dad i was! haha. and the rest of the various art cliques in this city, i am also not a part of, so where does that leave me you might wonder? usually at home making art! haha! which is more fun anyway.

i also watch "vice guide" on youtube, which is hilarious. vice was a magazine that came to prominence in the 1990's and was the cool magazine people loved because it was free. well, they're still around, and probably stronger than ever, and have their own youtube channel, which is chock full of hilarious and informative things. check it out. it's what helps keep me sane in this dust blown somewhat very redneck town while waiting for my kids to get older so we can leave. haha.

also, i curate art shows and work to build up the Arbour Collective, the group i co-founded with Nacoma George. we're really kicking ass and working hard to create our own arts and media centre here in kamloops, bc. and help represent urban aboriginal people with art shows, festivals, workshops and the like. why? because no one else is doing it.

there are many more reasons, but for now, i've got to go and pick up the art book/catalogue (i designed and worked on forever) from the printers. will post pictures and if you want a copy, private message me and i'll send you one.

until next time lovers,

CB

re: art and lack of sleep.

hello friends, fans, foe, lovers, leavers, sinners and winners...

really enjoying making new art these days, stumbled onto a new genre to challenge my brain, and i love it. now, to make a new kick ass film. it's kind of funny, the stuff i was doing two years ago is finally catching on, the apology films, the residential school apology series of images, and the films i made in the last five years are still holding up quite well. i will repost them.

recently had an interesting revelation. people do not like to let you change. if you change and grow as a human being, people you knew previously will still only know you from the last time they saw you. they get weird and it's awkward trying to relate back to their world.

basically, i spend roughly 6 months of the year on the road. as well, i'm working and developing an aboriginal arts organization here in the interior of b.c. trying to get something happening. we do workshops in art, film, organized a music festival 2 years in a row, and we had 2 exhibitions last year as well we're working on a residency program. i've got pre-art friends and post-art friends and trying to cohabit in those worlds is very strange indeed.

i don't see my pre-art friends very often because they do their thing and are busy, and i am as well. my post-art friends or, artist friends are all roughly in the same level of so-called success, so we can hang out a bit more and develop projects, or ideas and such. it's interesting to watch when the two worlds collide. haha.

life is strange, awkward and funny, well, i hope life is good for you, all the best,

CB.

re: honey bunny II.....

hello friends, fans, foe, lovers, leavers, sinners and winners,

honey bunny. who has not heard those words and instantly thought of the opening sequence to the movie "Pulp Fiction"?

forever, i will hear that dialogue and see that opening when i hear the words "Hunny Bunny."

except, this one is infinitely hotter. haha.

a cold has finally caught up with me, and i'm feeling like my head is a balloon floating above my body. or it could be the cold medicine. one can never truly tell.

until next time lovers,

re: behind the veil II.......

Friends, fans, foe and lovers,

i bring you the second image of "Behind the Veil."

this has some colourization to it. the previous one is black and white, but i wanted to add some tones of red to it. to add some lust. some desire to the fire.

i love digital art, which has a bad rap, a lot like digital music. do i give a damn. no.

when i did "traditional art" such as painting, drawing and illustration, under which i laboured well over a decade, people back then would talk smack about my art. people talk smack about my art now. the difference is now i'm able to create the images in my head with a camera, and a collection of images, and my skills on a computer. sometimes i'll do a good old fashioned cut up, like the brits love to do. but digital is where it's at. i also do a lot of outside art, painting on walls, tunnels and bridges, which is all about the moment and the process. that is hugely rewarding as well. will i post it? eventually. i managed to get up on walls from Victoria to Montreal this year, which is about 8 or 10 cities, and it was awesome meeting other artists and just having other people to talk to in the struggle of art. haha. like it's a rebellion or something, but in many ways, it is a movement, a struggle and criminalized. so indeed, it really is a rebellion. haha.

oh, the other difference between the people talking smack about my art ten years ago and the people talking smack about my art now, is it's a new group of people, most of whom don't make art for a living, while i continue to make art for a living. that is what is important. that is what i do not forget.

until next time lovers,

re: behind the veil.......

Hello friends, fans, foe, lovers, leavers, sinners and winners........

behind the veil.......it can mean multiple things, in some parts of the world, it can mean the beauty of a woman behind the veil, in other parts of the world, it can mean the reality is hidden behind the illusion of the veil and so on.

recently i've been behind the veil, to see the reality and the illusion.

i like both.

all too often, the illusion is much better, the reality can be boring, dull and tame.

life is complicated.

i forgot to post yesterday, had my kids this past weekend and they were sick, so fatherly duties took me away. it was a puke and poop fest at my house. so, that means there was a lot of laundry and cleaning being done and it was non-stop. as i write this, my son is curled up on the couch, sleeping and his fever has finally broke. thank gods and goddesses.

back to thee art.

i will post a second image, based on the one above, but this one shall have colour. compare them.

thanks for coming lovers,

re: chris bose cards.

hello friends, fans, foe and lovers,

i bring you two chris bose cards. decide which is your favourite and do let me know.

this chris bose, is my great, great grand father. i might have missed a great in there. anyway, he died in belgium in 1916 after surviving about 7 months in world war I. his monthly salary was $15. to join the army he had to surrender his rights as an aboriginal person in canada. no title. no land. no language. no culture. just to die for queen and country. i'm sure he thought it was important and he was making a difference somehow. i often wonder what this young, brave man would think of his great, great grandson chris bose. me.

until next time lovers,

chris bose III.

re: liquor.

hello friends, fans, foe, lovers and leavers,

how's it going? i'm well. really well. just found out i've got another book deal. my next book, 212 pages of short stories, non-fiction and pomes should be out in 2014. i love planning ahead, and a book deal always does that for me. now i've got to figure out a few things and how to kick this years ass to really open the doors for next year.

i finally just finished reading that book by Kirk Hammett, "Too Much Horror Business," and found it to be a fun read, good interviews, insight into the world of collectors, and amazing collection of horror art, memorabilia and props. my son picked it up and started reading it, and kept saying, "COOOOOL!" which made me happy.

a long time ago, i used to be a comic and action figure collector, and sadly "outgrew" that phase, rather, was told/nagged by various girlfriends to grow up, and "act my age," and like an idiot, i listened to them. fortunately, i did out grow them, and now when i see them, they're either fat and miserable with 5 kids, or super hot, haggard and miserable, with 1 or 2 kids and an awesome cocktail and martini problem. either way, i outgrew them and am getting back into the things i love. music, art, movies, comics and books in general. i do what i want and am wasting no more time because life is far too short. i'm realizing that if i had stuck to my guns, goals and ideals, i'd be where i am now, but twenty years ago. fuck.

so, the moral of the story? stick to the plan man. or woman. stick to the plan. hahaha.

in the meantime, enjoy yourself and this image,
