hello friends, fans, foe and lovers,
so glad you came back, i know you always will, muhahahahahaha! (sinister, even diabolical laugh!) well, either way, today's visual feast is the basketry of the indigenous peoples of b.c. or rather, the multitude of nations that make up this province. ech. can't get away from colonial words or colonialism. funny how the root word is colon? hahaha. ahhhh, now it makes sense.
anywho, enjoy these images, of prisoner cultural items, bought, bartered or stolen and ending up in a museum somewhere. back in the day, these baskets, bowls, storage units held barries, made tea, dried goods, could be used to cook food and hold water. you could tell where a basket came from, "chu chua" or "lytton" or wherever because of the family patterns. they are a part of our life blood. when we know the land better than ourselves. they say generations can "dream back" songs, stories and lessons, and i believe it, as i have done it myself. i call it "blood memory," and all you have to be is at the right place and right time for it to happen.
until next time lovers,
Chris Bose.
