re: me and willie....

lovers,

me and willie nelson.

yes, on the tour bus, just smoked a giant spliff he rolled in 2 seconds. it was killer. he was SUPER NICE, and humble, and everything you want your hero to be. wise. accommodating. cool. humble. and did i say super intelligent? it was a great visit, we talked about the environment, land, title, native people, injustice and killer weed. we also talked about the future. he was an amazing human being. most people i've ever met, and believe me, i've met tons, most of them are douchebags. very few are real. i mean real. humans.

working class i guess, just like me. people born into it are assholes.

you've got to work for it. if you get it handed it to you on a platter, guaranteed you don't give a fuck about it.

i'm old enough now to see parents who worked, slaved and did everything possible for success and treated their kids to it, i am watching their kids blow it, destroy it, not care about it. the first generation worked for it, the second generation blew it, the third generation had to pay for it.

anyway, gotta go,

re: the roads....

lovers,

the road. i no longer bitch about it. i love it. i'm learning to say "NO!" to gigs these days and not stretch myself so thin. life is good. i've worked through a lot of shit the past few years. things are always tough, challenging, but you know what, i need to giv'r like never before.

in the meantime,

cb

guess which one is mine?

re: life ain't so bad.....

lovers,

i love you. thanks for coming. i'm traveling through the desert. it's barren. it's harsh. but i love it. i've traveled the world, but i can't imagine living anywhere else. i can do a few months here and there, but ultimately, i need to come back here. tonight, i was talking to the current owner of a hotel built in 1862, and we had some good laughs. i told him i'm getting more fascinated with history, and place and time and land and people and stories. he laughed and said it's because i'm getting older. haha.

i love this land, it's where my people are from, and where my land/future is, and my kids as well.

anyway, talk more,

cb

re: the road.....

hello lovers,

i miss you. wish you were here.

i'm back on the road. i love it. currently staying in a hotel built in 1862, and waiting for ghosts. it isn't currently built like the old days. back then, it likely would have been built so each room was separate from the other. for, uh, privacy reasons. haha.

anyways, i was pretty tired last week from the previous week of mayhem in ontario, but once i got here, i felt great. this is part of the land where i'm from, it flows in my veins, for thousands of years my people have lived here. the food, the plants, the land and water has flowed through my veins forever. it feels good to be back actually. and a bit weird.

more-on that later.

until next post,

cb

re: 1862....

hello lovers,

i'm on the road. again.

doing some video work. i'm staying in a hotel from 1862, and it's great. i drove through the desert in a car with no name, it felt good to get out of the snow. haha. i'm watching "horrible bosses," and it's hilarious.

gear.

the old days.

re: busy month.....break from the computer.....

hello friends, fans, foe and lovers,

it's been a busy month. waiting to find out about grants. trying to make ends meet. rent, bills, kids, art supplies, computers on the last legs.....

so, postings will be sort of sporadic this month, but fear not, i'm still making art, just beyond the confines of the computer.

keep you posted! haha.

looking west, landing in calgary, towards the rockies.

homeward bound.

re: more travels.....

hello lovers,

some more strange images from SSM, or Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario......an amazing time there, i'd like to thank Jonathan Dewar, Andrea Pinheiro, and everyone at Shingwauk Residential School, Algoma University and 180 projects for inviting me there. it was quite an awesome and amazingly productive time there.

chainsaw bear. chopping down trees.

i met this guy.
we went crushing paint cans
and bombing missions!

some of the mixed-media work
i did at 180 projects.

a sad empty theatre
derelicte for nearly a decade.
i'd definitely move to SSM part of the year.

a strange tower.
i thought it'd be the perfect zombie
apocalypse hide-out.

well, i'm going for a walk, until next time lovers,

cb

greetings lovers,

i'm sending you some postcards from the road, now that i'm safely at home. yesterday was a harrowing day of time travel. i flew across the country and gained three hours. awesome. minor, very minor turbulence, which was even better. i'm a good flyer, i don't bug out, or whatever, but you know when you've had ten solid minutes of vomit-rated turbulence, you'll find god, jesus, buddha or allah ever single time and pray to see the ground in one piece and alive! haha.

anyways, enjoy some snapshots of the road:

radio towers in the sault.
lot's of'em.

i spent some time at Shingwauk Residential School
archives reading something called "the Indian Record."
a publication from the 1950's and 1960's
published by the Catholic and Anglican churches
about, evidently, "The White Man's Problem."

i caught the transit whilst in SSM,

my last outdoor piece in SSM, 180 projects/gallery
who were super awesome people
and are doing great things in SSM
in conjunction with the Shingwauk Res School.
like letting me come paint on their walls.

until next time lovers,

cb

re: home sweet home.....

ahhhh, home, i love it and hate it! hahaha

anyway lovers,

don't get me wrong, i love traveling, i love making art, i love meeting new peoples, i love wrecking new places, but it's nice to get back home. plus, i usually do extended tours, or am gone a week or six at a time. all my plants have died, well, not all, i've got four that are heartily still giving it a go. haha.

but i miss my kids dearly, and even though each trip is supposed to expand my mind, or my group of contacts, i don't really believe it is always that beneficial? the art world, like any world is full of liars, sycophants, double talkers, back stabbers and the like, but it is also full of potential patrons, friends, lovers, leavers, and the like, so it really is a fun way to navigate the world.

just be smart. or stupid. whatever. hahahaha, don't take advice from me.

i am just as capable of self-sabotage as well as anyone else! and i often do it by accident, and sometimes by design! hahahahahahah.

anyway, here's some images from the road.

enjoy!

Reggie's, a great dive pub/bar in SSM,
it reminds me of the Central Pub in Kamloops.
a lot.

dials, gadgets, spinners and things.

my baby, i missed her.
she's always by my bed.
waiting for some action.

re: new art........

hello lovers,

so i'm in sault ste. marie, working at algoma university and at 180 projects/gallery space getting ready for an installation/exhibition. i'm also crushing a wall. check it below.

i've been pretty lucky, it was -12 when i got here, but warmed up to -2 and it's been great painting outdoors as well as indoors, working on another project. i'll post those images later.

talk more later,

cb

re: title required. or whatever.

hello lovers,

so, when you arrive at vancouver international airport, you are greeted by these beautiful panels. nice eh!? i don't know who did them, but i will find out!

sitting at the airport during layovers.
inevitably, when you cross the country, you are going to get
layovers. with air canada, you're in vancouver
with westjet, you're in calgary.
i actually prefer westjet, the crews are nicer
the jets are bigger
and the trip is smoother.

downtown Sault Ste. Marie.
the view from the windsor hotel.

reggie's place
a great dive kind of pub.
it reminds me a lot of the central pub
in kamloops.

re: smoooooth operator........

hello friends, fans, foe and leavers,

below is a photo of sunrise at 14,000 feet. it was beauty.

below is an image of logan lake, bc.

below is a fluffy cloud dream.

flying out of kamloops is scary. i don't know what it is, the terrain, the water, the wind off the mountains, but it's very turbulent. and this flight was at 6:30 am. i was tired. and then the pilot came on the p.a. system and said we'd have a bit of a rough flight, i kinda regretted flying. haha. but it turned out to be the smoothest flight ever.

and in the smaller airports, the new pilots train in smaller places, so the pilots all consequently look like they're 16 and their flight suits look too big. haha. always a boost of confidence!

anyway, it was a smooooooth flight.

until next time,

cb

re: travelin' man.

hello friends, fans, foe and lovers,

i'm in ontario making art. it's amazing you can cross the continent in one day. the world in probably two or three days.

below is a picture of the fart tube. an air canada airbus ac 130.
i call it a fart tube because that's what happens when you cram
it full of people and you breathe recycled air.
it can get smelly.

i'll post more photos.

re: morbid melancholia....

hello freaks, fans, foe, lovers, sinners and winners,

i bring you morbid melancholia.

the weather has been weird. extreme grey, dull days, which are followed by insanely bright sunny days that are full of wind that blows the dust around town even harder, reminding us or perhaps asking us, what are we doing in a city on the edge of forever and nowhere?

what do you think? where are you living? how does it treat you? how has your winter been if you've had one?

until next time lovers,

CB

re: medulla.......

hello friends, fans, foe and lovers,

i bring you medulla. godess of song.

i thought about saying medusa, but i'm sure someone would have whined about it.

haha.

i got up early and was watching the "Vice Guide: to the balkans." and it was what it was. one of my ex's was from there. during my euro-days. we had a kid together. that kids is now 17 and is estranged from me. i will say this is not my fault. or not entirely my fault. i was involved in her life until a few years ago. her mother decided i was either not a good influence, which was bullshit, or she did it as a means of control. either way, it sucked. and whatever propaganda my daughter has been told, she believed, and has nothing to do with me. some people in this world are that evil. last time i saw her she had been injured at work and it all had come crashing down on her. karma perhaps.

anyway, not a day goes by when i don't think of her, and despite letters, postcards and phone calls, there's been no response, so all i can do for now is wait. but, i've got my kids from my last relationship, and it was last relationship for me, i'm sick of relationships, i'm done with them, perhaps for the rest of my life, but what i'm saying is, i've got to go, just wanted to post new art. no time for navel gazing today!
