stolen sisters
just google search 'stolen sisters' and see what you find.
the numbers are pretty horrifying. years ago, when i first heard
about the 'trail of tears' highway from prince george to prince rupert
and all the native girls going missing, i told my girlfriend that nothing
would happen until a non-native girl went missing. then, a girl named
nicole hoar went missing, and sure enough, it became a national 'incident.'
suddenly, this was deemed worthy of total coverage, for about two weeks.
i don't think they've caught that killer. i've also heard of news reports in the prairies
of someone who preys on native women there too, and not just the ones who live supposed
'dangerous lifestyles' but a university student and a teenage girl among the victims....sadly, the list goes on and on
to continue my rant, when that young guy was murdered brutally on the greyhound,
immediately, i sensed it was a native guy. it just had to be. had that happened in a city
it probably would never have gotten quite the attention it did. what about the 'starlight drives'
(google search that one too!) or the skid row natives who die in police custody or shortly thereafter?
these are just random stories you find on the internet, never, ever full coverage.
but canada is not racist. was not founded on racist principals or among the first countries to instill institutionalized racism.
over 500 native women murdered or missing in canada since 1980. (estimated)
oh canada......we stand on guard for thee......
