re: morbid melancholia....
hello freaks, fans, foe, lovers, sinners and winners,
i bring you morbid melancholia.
the weather has been weird. extreme grey, dull days, which are followed by insanely bright sunny days that are full of wind that blows the dust around town even harder, reminding us or perhaps asking us, what are we doing in a city on the edge of forever and nowhere?
what do you think? where are you living? how does it treat you? how has your winter been if you've had one?
until next time lovers,
CB

re: lady death.
hello friends, family, foe, lovers, leavers, sinners and winners,
i bring you lady death.
for too long death has been personified as a male. i demand equality amongst the immortals!
thus, lady death.
when i go, i pray it's her that reaps my soul,
until next time lovers,
cb

re: occult + the cult = southern death cult
hell-o friends, fans, foe and lovers,
i hope all is well in your galactic worlds. things are busy in mine, but i'm happier that way. when i was younger, uhm, much younger, i used to think that haggard, worn out cliche, "live fast die young," was cool.
well, now that dying didn't happen early, i'm much happier being alive. haha.
plus, technology caught up to what i see in my head, versus, what i could technically accomplish on my own. now i can make the art i want, play the music i want and make the films i want without having to be a millionaire.
not that i don't want to be a millionaire, because hey, let's face it, if anyone of us was given the option to be a millionaire, i don't think we'd turn down that opportunity. some of us would buy stupid, status symbol, expensive crap, i'd buy art supplies. and guitars.
haha.
well, this latest occult image that i've been working on, one of many, is an homage to cheesy 1970's occult movie posters. ah the 1970's, so bad, and so good simultaneously. i was just a wee kid back then, and i listened to AC/DC, Led Zep, Black Sabbath, KISS, Jimi Hendrix, Ted Nugent and the first Def Leppard album. my favourite album was "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap." i was a headbanger back then, i'm a headbanger now. my dad listened to those albums, and i remember looking at the album art, and wondering "wow, what made them make such crazy album covers?"
sadly, this is something i think is lost in our modern age, unless you count video game covers as the new "album" for kids to check out. lame-cakes.
but i remember the Merritt theatre always had posters and i would also check'em out, and i loved the beautiful women in the 1970's posters, they were hot, busty and scantily clad. what boy or perhaps even girl wouldn't like those posters?!?!
(people with a rant about sexism, exploitation and other important issues, please feel free to leave now.)
so, there you go, the inspiration behind this image, which isn't finished, but it'll do for now.
all the beast,
cb

re: post valentines......
hello friends, fans, foe and lovers,
it's the day after valentines, and everyone in a relationship probably has a romance hangover. i, being single and loving it, do not and feel great!
i've been single for awhile now, and it really took some getting used to, especially since i spent the better part of 15 years in relationships. i was a serial monogamist. but that is over. haha!
now, i dedicate my life to my kids, and my creative endeavours, which are very consuming and very busy. suffice it to say, i was getting really sick of hearing about online dating, and tips for finding that "special someone," on cbc radio yesterday. i didn't get it. who cares? the older i get, the more i'm beginning to realize that getting there and finding absolution, finding the meaning of life, finding creative satisfaction, finding job satisfaction and all that, is dependent upon one thing. you.
well, not only that, but how much you dedicate to finding your way, and i can only stress to people, there's a ten thousand hour theory at work here. if you really want something to be the main focus in your life, it takes about ten thousand hours to get there. i had coffee yesterday with a friend who said, "i'm living the dream," which kind of made me laugh. i guess so, maybe, but to me, i'm just doing what i love, and have dedicated myself to pretty much my whole life. it's taken forever to get here, and now that i'm here, there is no excuses. i make art everyday, or write every day, or make music every day because that is what i do and am good at. relationships, friendships, family and supposed "real" work, i kinda suck at, because part of being an artist, a so-called "professional" artist requires complete dedication. that said, not everyone is going to "make it," and it really boils down to 1% actually being able to make a living off of their creative endeavours. in reality, i sell very little art, because people don't really give a shit about art, they care about the person behind the art, the story, and where they came from to be where they are today.
basically, i make my living from workshops, commissions, and fees from exhibitions, or projects. i think i've only sold about 6 - 10 works, well, maybe more, in the past couple years, and if i were to base my income solely on that, i'd be totally screwed. i've got 4 kids to support, and that's a tough thing to do in any job world, let alone creativity.
not that i'm bitching, i just wanted to share a different point of view, a different reality and what goes on behind the iron curtain of the art world.........
in the meantime, enjoy this new work about a girl standing on a skull.
all the bets,
cb

re: the prestige
Greetings friends, fans, lovers, foe and the like,
how goes it? i'm well, sort of, heading back to work in construction for awhile, need to catch up on some bills post haste, and i need a break from the art world. people want to do things, and have ideas or promises, but those things do not pay rent or bills. at least, not in the immediate.
been thinking about the future, what does it hold? how long can i keep doing this? i need to get myself a house, and some money saved for the future. today in line at a grocery store, i watched several elderly people paying for their groceries, and i noticed how they were super precise about their purchases. it reminded me that i too might be fortunate enough to get old, but i should begin socking some money away.
who is going to look after me? who will be there for me? how will i retire? these are questions i'm asking myself more and more lately.
anyways, until i figure out some concrete plans, i'll keep slogging away at artwork and everything else until i hatch a plan.
enjoy this new work, it's very layered and hypnotic, i can't wait to print it. and is very much about the upcoming prophetic 2012.
adieu,
cb
