re: T'kemlups pow wow arbour statues......

hello lovers,

i hope you're well, these are some flicks of the T'kemlups Pow Wow arbour statues......they're massive and imposing.

go check them out yourself if you're ever passing through town.

until next time,

chris bose.

re: workshop and cops.....

hello lovers,

here are some workshop photos from a recent arbour collective workshop. we were printmaking and painting on the walls. it was fun painting on the walls. i love it. anyway. it was a good workshop and i love building community and community arts based projects, they're so rewarding and awesome. it's hard to explain, but i often tell me i'm over myself as an artist and get more out of helping others. weird eh? haha.

and then after the workshop, i saw a weird scene with cops and fire dept. attending to a passed out native dude on the sidewalk. they knew him by name, which made it more sad, or tragic. but they were nice to him and treated him like a human being instead of garbage, which is what i'm used to seeing aboriginal people being treated like by most. sigh.

that's the effects of residential school, the destruction of aboriginal families, culture, language and community. it pisses me off when non-aboriginal people ask me why "we can't just get over it." think about the stuff i just said in this paragraph. i suffer from post trauma syndrome, i've seen a lot of horrible things in my life growing up, and i'm struggling to overcome this stuff every day. it's complicated.

anyway, until next time,

chris.

it was weird to go from an awesome workshop
to this scene on the way home.

at least the cops and the fire dept. treated
this poor aboriginal man well
and with dignity.
it made me sad to see him
on the streets like that. sigh.

re: kasto. stop motion style.

hello lovers,

how goes it in your world? all is well and auspicious i hope. i'm a little tired and ragworn in a bucket of mop water after a long day at the car wash in august, but i'm holding on. strand by strand. i could use some sleep. but that's later.

in the meantime, check this dope video of Kast rocking a workshop we did this summer at Thompson Rivers University, in conjunction with the Kamloops Art Gallery. it doesn't get more legit than that to do graffiti. the photos were taken by shealagh dedelley and edited by yours truly.

until next time lovers,

re: cultural/media workshop.

hello lovers,

doing some workshops right now, gathering traditional foods and medicines and documenting it with video and photos. teaching kids how to do this, so they can learn and hopefully continue to do so. giving, or sharing skills is awesome. i had to learn the hard way in life, so it is rewarding to share the skills and hopefully mentoring the kids to avoid pitfalls and making the same mistakes i did.

anyways, check it out!

re: desert city queen.....

hello friends, fans, foe, lovers and leavers,

i bring you the desert city queen.

the other night some friends passed through town and some hijinks ensued. it was great fun.
but what it really did was remind me i'm somewhat isolated up here in the interior of b.c.

the night life consisted of running a gamut of crackheads and meth junkies between the three or four pubs that were open. 2 of which were total dives. haha.

and still, everything closed at 1 a.m.

i'm not part of the young, hipster art crowd, most of which is university driven of course, in fact i'm quite sure if i showed up at some hipster art gathering, arguably, they'd wonder whose dad i was! haha. and the rest of the various art cliques in this city, i am also not a part of, so where does that leave me you might wonder? usually at home making art! haha! which is more fun anyway.

i also watch "vice guide" on youtube, which is hilarious. vice was a magazine that came to prominence in the 1990's and was the cool magazine people loved because it was free. well, they're still around, and probably stronger than ever, and have their own youtube channel, which is chock full of hilarious and informative things. check it out. it's what helps keep me sane in this dust blown somewhat very redneck town while waiting for my kids to get older so we can leave. haha.

also, i curate art shows and work to build up the Arbour Collective, the group i co-founded with Nacoma George. we're really kicking ass and working hard to create our own arts and media centre here in kamloops, bc. and help represent urban aboriginal people with art shows, festivals, workshops and the like. why? because no one else is doing it.

there are many more reasons, but for now, i've got to go and pick up the art book/catalogue (i designed and worked on forever) from the printers. will post pictures and if you want a copy, private message me and i'll send you one.

until next time lovers,

CB
