hope all is well in your world, i'm a little crazy busy right now, but will savour it. in the back of my mind, i've been thinking about our country, the economy and the art scenes in this nation of canada. it's kind of a pity that there are pockets of arts scenes throughout the country, but things really flourish in the major centers of toronto, montreal and vancouver.
i've been to those cities many times and i'd have to say montreal is my favourite.
vancouver and toronto, both have become disgusting, yuppiefied, gentrified playgrounds for the rich and shameless. the douchebag and bimbo ratio with spray tans, glitter, cheap sweet smelling perfume or impenetrable chachi spicy cologne is intolerably high in both those cities as well as the stinking hipster douchebag, especially on commercial drive in vancity. everyone, and i mean everyone male and female has huge bushy beards and skinny black jeans with those big buddy holly glasses or shades. ground zero is cafe duh soleil. my buddy AEM (also a bushy beard guy come to think of it. however, he's far beyond skinny jeans and is chill) and I both read at the cafe duh soleil and tried in vain to tear it a new a-hole.
AEM ready from one of his books, which he tore up after his reading, it was awesome, a spectacle i have never seen before, and i read from my book "the apology" written expressly for a show at the UNIT/PITT gallery. he was a tough act to follow, but i stomped around on the stage and had them cheering and a couple boos. which is always fun. we were invited back by the owner, whether or not it was from us drinking copious beverages or because we were so bad, we were good. one can never tell if it's the beverages or the badness at a certain point.
ANYWAY, i digress from a healthy rant. uhm, oh yeah, i like eggs.
besides that, where was i going? i notice whenever i do a specific type of work, my art suffers. it doesn't suffer, i just don't do it. and that work is soul-destroying administration work. it's hell, especially when it comes to budgets. but, thankfully i am better at balancing work and creativity. i think about the future now that we are already, yes, ALREADY approaching the halfway point in this year. fcuk. what the hell happens? why does time go faster when you get older? why does it take so long to find your way? what the fuck!?! argh!? spittle spreck! argh!
frustration aside, i just wanted to say hi and rant a little bit, until next time lovers,
CB.
