re: kasto. stop motion style.

hello lovers,

how goes it in your world? all is well and auspicious i hope. i'm a little tired and ragworn in a bucket of mop water after a long day at the car wash in august, but i'm holding on. strand by strand. i could use some sleep. but that's later.

in the meantime, check this dope video of Kast rocking a workshop we did this summer at Thompson Rivers University, in conjunction with the Kamloops Art Gallery. it doesn't get more legit than that to do graffiti. the photos were taken by shealagh dedelley and edited by yours truly.

until next time lovers,

re: grand forks.

hello lovers,

hope all is well in your world, i'm winding down a hell of a year in the arts and film, been on the road since january and have gone across canada and back. for some reason, i was in the west the most i have been in 7 years, and had over 6 exhibitions and so on. as well as about 100 workshops in the arts and filmmaking. 2 artist residencies and so on.

just spent some time down in grand forks, bc, and it was awesome. a beautiful place, and the people were really nice. i made some new friends and had some great times and shot a great little documentary that's going to go into the art gallery along with a piece by terry jackson. there's some decent pizza at "Rumour's," restuarant that they sell by the slice in the day and have different deals throughout the week as well as great desserts. it's across from the high school. as well the "Station pub," has really good pub fare and the staff was really awesome and nice. i had lamb growlers a few times. awesome. then i asked if they could just make me a lamb burger and said "no problem," and it was kick ass. it also has a huge safe from the old days at the bar (2800 pounds, i guess 2500, pretty close!) and was the original train station in town.

if you go downtown there's a coffee shop called "joga's," and they have great snacks and awesome coffee, as well, if you want kick ass coffee there's "Jitter's," beside the DQ and it is really good. Apparently there's a coffee wagon but i never found it, and it's a musician who supports his music habit selling the java and is very particular and passionate about it. i did have the coffee and it was the best. I went to a rock shop that was closing, sadly, bought scored some great deals on various rocks. there was also a pawn shop that was open late, i.e. after 5 pm. i also went for a couple awesome trips around town, up hardy mountain and got some great panorama shots of the valley, which runs East/West, and went to a creek/gorge (kettle creek?!) where one of Nicolai Tesla's 60 cycle tests was performed the first time. as well i went up to Christina lake for their open mic and heard some great music, including bob the lounge singer.

anyway, that is just a bit of it, overall i had a great time, and yes, had some amazing borscht.

peace out y'all!!!

re: time lapse....

Hello friends, fans and foe,

i was recently working in beautiful grand forks, bc, and had the amazing good fortune of finally getting some decent time lapse videos done. so, will be post them for your enjoyment.

time lapse is without a doubt, the dullest form of video to make, but the results can be epic. some of my all time favourite time lapses were done in breaking bad. so good.

enjoy,

re: review of my latest video installation!!!

hello lovers,

it's been awhile, i've been rather busy, setting up and bring art down to vancouver, bc, for 3 exhibitions, major ones. the first is at the belkin gallery out at UBC, and was reviewed in the Georgia Straight here:

http://www.straight.com/arts/425066/witnesses-makes-palpable-impact-residential-schools

the next show is at 236 Pender, which is in Chinatown, at the Unit/Pitt gallery, and i curated this show, featuring Bracken Hanuse Corlett, Byron Steele and Nigel Zsigeti. it's called "God Save the Queen,"
and here's a photo of that show.

link is here:

and finally, the last show i'm involved with is at the Malaspina Printmakers down on Granville Island and is a group show as well, regarding truth and reconciliation. a question that looms over all of us.

and weblink here:

so, please do go check them out,

as always,

cheers,

cb

re: more stories from the road.....

Hello lovers,

i hope you are well, this suite of photos finds you looking down the barrel of my life, a gun that blasts day after day, photos, and these particular ones are from the gopro hero camera. hence the crazy panoramic widescreen imagery.

i'll tell you a bit about each photo.

until next time lovers,

stay clean, think dirty.

re: fragments in time......

Hello lovers,

hope the end of summer is treating you well, i'm enjoying the shift in the weather to the cooler temperatures these days, six weeks or so of 35c and up was getting a bit much. it was relentless and punishing towards the end of that stint. especially when traveling, it can make a trip that much more grueling.

below are some fragments from the road, moments in time i would like to remember forever.

that's a great part of my job as an artist, i get to travel and see and do things usually only locals do, but all across the country. a person's fave pub, or swimming spot, or favourite hike, restaurant, book store, etc, etc.

until next time,

cb

a lot of traveling is also waiting.
the above photo is the glamourous
spot i waited to transfer buses to lytton.
i've sat in fancy airport lounges
all over the world raiding booze fridges
before security catches me
but nothing gets more real
than being on the side of the road
it was blazing hot, behind a gas station i found shade
and plucked away on my guitar
and sipped beer while
watching people bring their
travel dogs to the back to piss and shit
while i noodled away on the gitbox.

this was friends of mine attic space
it is exactly like my grandparents old attic
that has long since burned to the ground
so every morning when i woke up here
i was reminded of my childhood.
bittersweet memories.

this was again at my friends place
and i was sitting outside playing guitar
enjoying the cool mist of the water
and the sounds the drops made on that
buddhist looking bell
chiming away with the drops of water
it was peaceful and a great
way to wake up.

this was n'kemcin
where the waters meet
and not far from the spiritual heart
of our territory.
a very special place
and i woke up and walked here every morning
enjoying the sound of the rushing
waters and peaceful quiet.

re: upcoming show.

hello lovers,

a new film for an upcoming show at the Belkin Gallery in Vancouver, at UBC.

Savage. Heathen.

Something i've been called many times in my life, and now that i'm overcoming all that hate, slander and racism, as well as impossible odds, it feels good. damn good. to finally be able to take over cities and kick ass. all that work, endless nights of making music, or writing or making art, are finally starting to pay off. where it all goes, we'll have to see. until then, i've got more work to do.

i'm exhausted, but there's more work to be done.

until next time lovers,

cb

coyote always there for me!

re: residency update.

hello lovers,

so the arbour residency is over. done. finished. how do i feel about it? okay. life is for living and learning, and what should have been a more one on one community based residency with adrian stimson was sort of blown up into a crazy monstrosity of 10 other artists. it wasn't what i was expecting.  it was perhaps a bit too much? it somewhat lacked curatorial leadership. it lacked more time on the land. hahahahaha. kidding. it was fine. it was fun. what am i being passive aggressive? haha. no, but you know, it was a fantastic experience, and i had some great conversations with some of the artists. that said, i did a similar large project a couple years ago with the Enowkin Centre, which became a great touring exhibition called, "Picto Prophecies," and to me, it had better results. we were more focussed. we spent more time on the land. on reserve. what i should have done was nut up and step up and taken more of a leadership role. meh. live and learn. i know more for next time.

don't get me wrong, i had a good time. but i also can't really be around people for great lengths of time i've discovered. people need to create drama. need to create weirdness. and there were so many people in and out of my own place, workshops, upcoming exhibitions, visiting friends, colleagues, cohorts, conspirators, raconteurs, scoundrels and the like that for the past 6 weeks, i haven't had much alone time to reflect and think about all the incredible things i've seen and been a part of.

now, i've got a couple weeks downtime, finally and thankfully, i can defragment my mind and contemplate all the things i've been through and process and make sense of things!? hahaha!

but what i really want to do is catch up on a lot of missed sleep, lay on the couch, watch breaking bad, drink beer, fart, belch, sleep a bunch more and hide out in my man cave from the rest of the world. this is day three and i'm already feeling better.

the human mind can only take so much abuse, overloaded visuals, information and crap. i've been on super high stimulation for so long that i am deeply enjoying waking up and staring at the walls in my bedroom for about an hour, stretching and thinking about life before i even get out of bed. incidentally, the walls in my bedroom are full of art. cheesy art. my kids art. heavy metal album art. all kinds. and blessed blank spaces i can stare at for some time. daydreaming. what a luxury.

anyway, enjoy some photos from the residency.

until next time,

cb

guess who's installation for the exhibition?
