Back at it, reviving this blog and updates!

Wow, it's been a long time since I've posted on this blog. You could definitely say I've lost my way more than once in this creative journey that started back in December 2008. I'll update you, it's been nearly 4 years since my last post and so much has changed even since then. Covid swept the world, all the momentum I had built up to that point was washed away, I used to spend 150 days a year on the road, sometimes more than that, and like many millions of people life changed within a few months as the world quickly ground to a halt. Post Covid, I've struggled to find my way creatively, work wise, burnt out, got massively depressed because 10 years on the road and then nothing, 4 years of Covid era madness, people forget who you are and a new flock rises up and people were keeping closer to home. Everything changed in my life.

Now, I'm trying to figure out who I am still, where I want to go and what I want to do. In that time I wrote a new book of poetry/prose, formed a band and toured for the first time in years but this purely driven by sheer will to get back out there and perform. I changed my practice creatively and slowed down on art workshops because I was totally burnt out. Music is back in my life in a big way, my band is called "Horse Funeral Band," and we started on, I shit you not, 420 or April 20th in 2023. We wrote about 8 - 10 songs and went into Doug Perry's recording studio on June 19th, 2023 and recorded 6 songs, live off the floor, mixed, mastered in 5 hours. Then I hit the road and started touring June 26 until sometime at the end of November 2023, all totalled at least 50 shows in 4 or 5 provinces, ranging from dive bars, big clubs, festivals, house parties and everything in between.

I shakily found my voice and am still developing a style, which I'd say is dark, solitary confessional acoustic songwriter. My voice is very baritone, so it's been a journey and fun, scary, exhausting, creative and everything in between. This past year, I toured a lot less, because I'm in my 50's and being on the road that much was pretty exhausting; we've mainly done festivals and gigs in Alberta and the lower mainland. The expense of touring has really gotten magnified, gas is so expensive, food is more expensive, accommodations, merch, hell, it's all a different world now. I'm working on a plan, new music, new recordings and booking shows for next year and will have a better idea of what's going on and how to do it. Without further ado, here's the bandcamp page for us:

https://horsefuneral1.bandcamp.com/album/new-songs

That's all I'm going to post for tonight, I'll return tomorrow with more news, creative projects and information about the past 4 years.

Kukstemc, thanks for tuning in all these years,

Chris Bose.

re: all i know is this.....

hello friends, fiends, fans, foe and lovers,

here's my new video poem called, "All I know is this...." and it's from my new book, "A moon made of copper," published by Kegedonce Press.

it was filmed last year in spences bridge, bc, lytton, bc, botanie valley and stein valley bc.

this part of my new challenge, goal of making a film a week and uploading online here and various other social network platforms.

i recently lost my youngest brother to cancer, the day after he died i quit drinking and made a commitment to improve my own health. part of that commitment is getting back into a creative frame of mind and continue pushing boundaries and to challenge myself. over the years i've gotten jaded as fuck, kind of tired and miserable. i felt trapped once again. but these days, i'm feeling good, and moving beyond feeling trapped to, "how do i escape?" haha.

i want to go to europe and play shows, have exhibitions, do readings, go to music festivals and perform in front of tens of thousands of people. how does one get there? lots of hard work. i lost sight of this trapped in my own prison, in my own mind. but i'm ready now to giver and take no prisoners. life is short. live it hard and live it good, who knows what happens afterwards?

until next time lovers,

chris bose.

re: heavy metal guitar.

this is a rare sneak peek into my private space. it's not that i don't like people, i just feel better when they're not around. haha.

anyway, in this video, at 1:50, i achieve climax, and everything goes dark after that. hahaha, kidding, that's a line from american dad.

but still at 1:50, i've had my groove on......

this was three years ago, cutting loose late at night in the studio........

adios,

cb

re: finger riff and traveling stuff....

hello friends, fans, foe and lovers,

i'm back at it, on fire, or perhaps, "FIYAH!!!"

or something thereabout.

anyways, i've got tons of riffs i need to get out of my head and into the cosmos.

but i didn't just want to post boring old videos of me playing guitar. so, here's what i've done instead, make fruity, trippy, weird videos. so, enjoy?

cheers,

CB

re: sequence 5

hello friends, fans, foe and lovers,

a fresh new jive just for you.

all the bets,

cb.

re: a new film!

hello friends, fans, foe and lovers,

another exciting new video for you.

for the next 30 days or so, i'll be posting new riffs, songs, ideas, ramblings and the like online. i travel a shitload, so i'm using footage i've accumulated over the past four years of cross country madness.

i hope you enjoy them.

all the best,

cb

ps: they will get stranger and more experimental as i go further down the filmmaking spiral. like this video, which is very david lynch. haha.

re: moments between salvation and hell.

hello friends, fans, foe and lovers,

one more video before i get some rest. the kids must go to school and i must pretend i fit in this stupid game one more day.

even though i may bitch about it, i'm happiest on the road. if i can't see my kids every day, then i would rather be touring every day and seeing them every two weeks.

it beats sitting around tearing yourself apart in between those moments of salvation and hell.

until next time lovers,

cb
ps: dig my "O" faces in this video or what? hahahahah! heavy riffs, i shit them out. like a riff junkie. haha.

re: selling lies disguised as truth. or trust.

if i won ten or twenty million dollars i'd take some serious time off and heal my body.

over the past 4 decades or so, i've beaten the hell out of it.

i'm starting to notice it.

in this form, this reality, i'm not going to last forever.

and i'm getting real tired of jumping through all these bullshit hoops to just do what i want to do that i would do just to cover my bills. but i'm getting older now and think of my kids more.

sigh.

i work and slave to change the cultural landscape of canada and to provide for my family. while bankers get richer, businessmen get fatter and politicians lie deeper. sometimes i just want to say fuck it all.

until next time lovers,

cb
ps: obviously, by the video, i don't take myself that seriously. but i rock. haha.

re: new art and stuff.

hello friends, fans, foe and lovers,

more art for you.

just finished a 212 page manuscript that i'm sending in to my publisher and hopefully they'll dig it.

organizing more workshops and getting ready to take the arbor collective to non-profit status recognized by the province of b.c.

life is good and busy. i love it.

until next time lovers,

re: more road.

hello friends, fans, foe and lovers,

here are more images from the road.

zombie proofing buildings?

re: travels.

hello friends, fans, foe and lovers,

hope things are well in your world. i'm chilling at home, been home a couple weeks and enjoying it.

here are some images from the road.

i worked long and hard to get here, so i don't feel guilty anymore for enjoying myself. it doesn't seem that long ago i was working on a farm as a labourer, hating the world for not getting my chance, and so now that i'm immersed in my opportunities, it feels goddamn good. i ain't rich, yet, but i'm doing what i want, and so, in a way, that's pretty damn wealthy.

vancouver, folkfest 2012
my friend cease got me in here free!! woot!!!

but it was here i realized i missed festivals
and big crowds.

on the way east to a big city.

westjet. oops.
not plugging it.
but damn nice shot eh?

better than my bed.

sweet.

i often stay in hotels that are nicer
than my own apartment!
haha?

ah, big cities.

until next time lovers,

re: new songs

hello friends, fans, foe and lovers,

here's a sneak preview of some songs i'm working on. i'm stoked, a couple of them have been kicking around for 20 years. yeesh. but they're still dope. the 1st image shows how many takes a song might have to go through before you get a decent take. plus, i changed keys, and deleted a bunch of cuts.

the image below is a rough cut of a song, i posted it so other friends can download it and collaborate on it. as it is such a pretty song, i ain't gonna sing on it. haha. there'll also be strings and other cool things on it when it's done. stay tuned here:

until next time lovers,

cb

re: Nkemcin: Voices of the Valley

hello friends, fans, foe and lovers,

i can't believe what a crazy, awesome month August was, and now it's nearly over! damn!

i feel honoured and fricken lucky to have been a part of so many cool, fun and slightly insane things in the past month. i survived.

now i'm getting stoked and busy again!

big thanks to my bro Nacoma George of CrazyCutz for helping making this event happen, Graham How for doing an amazing job on the sound and lights, and David Walkem and the staff and council at the Cooksferry Indian Band for making this happen!

woohoo! next year we're gonna go for the weekend and more fun things to happen!

cheers,

cb

re: new things.

hello friends, fans, foe and lovers,

it's been an insane month. i curated "official denial: the art of the apology" a show in kamloops, bc, at arnica artist run centre. it features the art of Adrian Stimson, Cease Wyss, Bracken Hanuse Corlett, and Tania Willard. it runs until sept 15.

then i was in Ottawa, Ontario for about 10 days. give or take.

then i programmed the Nkemcin: Voices of the Valley festival with the awesome Nacoma George of Crazy Cutz records and it kicked mighty ass. totally fun day/evening with Niska Napoleon, Garrett Stevens, Blackout Artists and Skookum Soundsystem. Graham How rocked the sound like a professional and it was all sponsored by the Cooksferry Indian Band, big shout out to David Walkem, not too mention the staff and Council of the band for helping making it happen!

then i was on Galiano Island at the Gulf Islands Film and Television School, or G.I.F.T.S helping out with 5 films in 6 days. i met great new friends and had an amazing time. i love that place.

and now i'm recording 8 new songs, making new art, and preparing for a new workshop series with the Arbor Collective in Kamloops as well as plotting next years activities and events.

plus i'm on my own, my own place and i'm fucking stoked and happy as all can be about it.

which is probably why i'm firing on all cylinders again.

anyway, i'll be posting a shitload of photos and posters accordingly.

peace out y'all, and thanks for coming.

re: leonard bukowski......

hello friends, fans, foe and lovers,

i can't believe i've never posted this link.

it's to my spoken word stuff, though i hate that term, it's lame, how about, this link is to my finished songs.

sound good? and they're free! download them! share them! burn them to discs and listen to them in the car!

good roadtrip music.

play it at night and i'll sing you to sleep.

do whatever you want.

if you make some dough, send some my way.

cheers,

chris bose.

click on the link above for your sonic adventure!

the best comparison for the first 9 songs is music
from the bastard love child of Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits and Charles Bukowski.

weird eh?

leonard cohen is so damn cool
back in tha day!

fat, disgusting and probably quite smelly
charles bukowski
and some girl.

tom waits
and his infamous quote
"I'd rather have a bottle in front of me
than a frontal lobotomy"

awesome.
